The Quest for the Perfect Flip-Flop

The journey began with a simple question:

Could a flip-flop be more comfortable, more durable and more sustainable?

Michel set out to design footwear that reflected everything he valued—comfort, simplicity, functionality and respect for the environment.

Early prototypes were even made using old tyres before evolving into the signature construction Gumbies is known for today. By combining recycled rubber, natural jute fibres, soft EVA cushioning and breathable canvas footbeds, Gumbies created a flip-flop that looked different, felt different and performed differently.

The result was the original Islander—a flip-flop inspired by adventure and built for wherever life takes you.
